    Runaway Bay

    Destination: Jamaica
    Sunlounger Stories 1
    (Buy it!)

    Story Synopsis:

A couple prepare to take the plunge in Jamaica and start up a business but one of them seems to have cold feet.

    Sneak peek of story:

There is something about airports that makes me nervous. Everything, until I am actually sat on the plane and on my way, makes me want to convince each member of staff that I am not a criminal of any kind.

I feel the need to explain my bad hair day on my passport picture and show my boarding pass to the lady in Duty Free even though she has only asked if I need any help. Today I feel more nervous than normal; there is an extra fizz in my belly telling me ‘This is it!’ Almost five years to the day, we are on our way back to Jamaica. The island where everything is “irie” even when everything is clearly not “irie”...

Tell us about the location you chose for your SUNLOUNGER story… Jamaica, for three reasons: Firstly because it was the location of my honeymoon. Secondly, because Jamaica is not written about enough! It is a beautiful country with beautiful, friendly people. There is more to it than just Reggae! Thirdly because of the place names. Runaway Bay, Glistening Waters, Nine Mile, Montego Bay – they sound like expensive nail polish colours and that’s never a bad thing!

*RUNAWAY BAY was the Judge’s Choice from the SUNLOUNGER Short Story Competition.

If you could live anywhere in the world? England! Simply because it is nice to go on holiday but it is so nice to come home. If I lived somewhere sunny all year I wouldn’t enjoy the novelty of a sunny holiday as much. Also I wouldn’t want to be too far away from family!

Destination you’ve returned to the most times? I have been to Mallorca 4 times. The island is lovely, not too far to fly and reasonable prices. The only bad time I’ve had was at Cala Millor, also lovely but the hotel was less so – my dad got food poisoning and mum had a run in with a parrot…

Favourite cuisine from around the world? Mexican, even though I have never been there! I love Enchiladas! We also tried Jerk Chicken in Jamaica – recommended to us by a local, cooked at the roadside in a make shift BBQ. It was delicious!

Favourite holiday cocktail? Easy one! A Malibu and Pineapple Sorbetini from The Venetian in Las Vegas. It doesn’t taste of alcohol but you really feel it when you stand up!

What has been your best and/or worst holiday romance? I haven’t had one! I met my husband when I was 16! So I will say my greatest and longest running holiday romance is with my purple Ed Hardy scarf, bought from an outlet in Las Vegas. Total bargain and I absolutely LOVE it!
