    La Posada Amor
    0 Comment / May 15, 2014

    Destination: Puerto Morelos
    Sunlounger Stories 1
    (Buy it!)

    Story Synopsis:

Can Ellie find love with a man who performs Lady Ga-Ga’s Poker Face in the style of a Mexican mariachi band? Anything is possible at La Posada Amor!

    Sneak peek of story:

Bending in a pair of artery-constricting skinny jeans while balancing on patent heels was proving trickier than a Cirque De Soleil scene.

My outfit was designed for show, less so for the after-show roadie duties. I’d just finished playing my ‘singalonga’ set at the Loco Lizard in downtown Cancun and the bar was heaving, air thick with alcohol, after-sun and pheromones galore. I couldn’t wait to escape...

Tell us about the location you chose for your SUNLOUNGER short story… I chose a laid-back fishing village (with pelicans) called Puerto Morelos, which is about 25 minutes from the bustle of Cancun on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. I visited on a sun-seeking whim in February – looking for a blissful beachy time but with stuff to look at (there’s Aztec ruins at Tulum or further inland there’s the impressive Chichen Itza for starters) So it was a perfect lazy/active combo. Plus they had the best guacamole going.

If you could live anywhere in the world… As my bones age, they demand sunshine. So I’d head to Spain for a quick-fix, and maybe California for being daring. The thought of walking sunny beaches and eating fresh fish makes me happy. It’s much harder to be a sofa-stuck misery when there’s waves crashing and palm trees beckoning. I’ve yet to test this, but in theory I would be far more active/healthy and less TV-addicted if I had balmy weather! (Naturally I’d also be appalling rich and live in a swanky beach house).

Destination you’ve returned to the most times: I’ve been to California and Vegas lots because my best buddy lived there. I love them both (buddy and destinations!) as they’re steeped in activities galore; shopping, wildlife, scenery, shows, sunshine, celebs, food, plus I love how Americans adore our Brit accents, you can always feel a bit special. Havana was incredible for feasting the eyes, I’ll definitely go back there. And Spain is fabulous for a short-hop to fabulous city-exploring, tapas, Agua de Valencia (the boozy local cocktail of the Gods!) and/or beach bliss.

Ticket, passport, money and… What is your travel essential? My mini medicine bag. My mum has taught me well. I like to be well stocked for any eventuality from indigestion to cystitis antibiotics to the evil hangover. Sunglasses you can nab from a corner shop, Trimethoprim you can’t!

Favourite holiday cocktail? I’m a sucker for sickly things like Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri but love a Mojito, Mai Tai and Tequila Sunrise. (All in one glass if you’re offering).

What was your best holiday romance? I’ll keep it simple and name the first fella I kissed. We were about 14 years old in a swimming pool in France. He was called Phillippe (which I loved because I had a crush on Phil Collins). We kissed underwater, because obviously having your first kiss isn’t awkward enough, so why not add the element of being totally submerged. It was quite nice, albeit brief, mainly due to lung capacity. We were pen-pals for about 6 months after but I don’t think it would have worked on dry land.

    Author Bio

Emily O’Neill’s first grown-up job was at The Observer Newspaper (targeted for their headed stationary to create the illusion of gravitas for celebrity-stalking letters). That whim fulfilled, she headed to Just 17 where she met her BFF Belinda Jones. (The pair were actually told off for giggling too much in the Carnaby Street office.)

From there she weedled her way through Smash Hits, For Women, The Daily Star, FHM, Sky, more!, OK, Sports Quarterly and various others as a freelance writer, and now runs a swanky covers band that plays anywhere from Royal Ascot to Rome. This is her first short story.
